Why Most Medical Practice Websites Don’t Work

old-fashioned music cassette and walkman with earphones

Remember eight track cassettes? If you’re old enough, you’ll remember they were prevalent in the mid-1960s to the late 1970s, or the mini-cassettes that replaced them. Today if you buy a car and want to listen to your own music, you can plug in or Bluetooth your music files from your phone.

Listening to music off on cassettes is out of date. Trying to attract patients with a non-mobile friendly website is too.

Did you miss it?

Back in 2014 the number of people who access the web with mobile devices surpassed the number who use laptop or desktop computers. Which means if your site isn’t mobile friendly it’s becoming as outdated as an 8 track cassette, and you’re missing the majority of potential patients looking for you.

If you’re thinking, of course my professionally run practice is up to date, think again. The vast majority, 89% of medical practice sites are NOT mobile friendly. Test yours to make sure.

Find out how whether your patients can access your website using the mobile and desktop devices that are replacing computer access to the web.

Google has already started penalizing sites that are so old school they aren’t mobile friendly. Which means if you have a non-mobile friendly site your search engine rankings will continue to drop.

Responsive web design on mobile devices phone, laptop and tablet pc

Google announced on the Webmaster blog that they are going to be boosting the effects of the mobile-friendly algorithm they launched back on April 21, 2015. If you are already mobile-friendly, you do not have to worry, because “you will not be impacted by this update.”

The mobile-friendly algorithm is a page-by-page signal, so it can take time for Google to assess each page, and that may be why it will be a gradual rollout. And depending on how fast Google crawls and indexes all of the pages on your site, the impact can be slow to show up. If you are not mobile-friendly, or if you want to ensure you are, check the Google mobile-friendly tool, and check Google’s mobile guidelines.
